Signs and Symptoms of Cocaine Abuse

When Cocaine is snorted, the effect is fast and the high lasts a relatively short time, possibly only 20 - 30 minutes. A hit of smoked Crack (freebase) will usually produce effects lasting 5-15 minutes.

This is one reason why people become addicted quickly as they repeat the dose to get another high. This drug can also be injected and again the effects come on quickly and wear off fast.

Symptoms of abuse:

  • Increase in respiration/pulse.
  • Rise in blood pressure.
  • Rise in body Temperature.
  • Sweating.
  • Pupils of the eyes dilated.
  • Loss of desire for food and sleep
  • Irritability.
  • Aggression/fears.
  • Paranoia/antisocial behavior.
  • Stuffy or bloody nose (if snorted).

Heave use may include

  • Extreme restlessness.
  • Increased aggression/fear.
  • Insomnia.
  • Hallucinations.
  • Extreme paranoia.
  • Nose cartilage damaged/destroyed (if snorted).

Overdose:

  • Hostility.
  • Dangerously high body temperature (hyperthermia).
  • Agitation.
  • Convulsions
  • Stroke.
  • Heart Attack.

Special Dangers.

When any drug is injected it can also place the user at risk for infections and if needle sharing, then blood borne diseases.
