Fake weed.

Fake weed, herbal incense or K2 - what ever it is called it is a mix of plant matter sprayed with a chemical concoction of synthetic marijuana. Despite how it is advertised, it is not safe. The CDC have had a number of reports of nasty reactions to this drug mix including acute kidney damage. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting and back pain. Long term effects of smoking these mixtures are still unknown. This stuff is targeted at teens. If you have a teenager, be sure to talk with them about the dangers of fake weed.

Club drugs kill in UK

Ecstasy look-alike drugs have killed one teenager and sent others to the hospital in the UK. The pills come in many colors with a heart or star imprint. It appears they are being sold as Ecstasy but in fact are most likely a mix of toxic chemicals.

Drug Addiction Danger.

What dangers do you think of when you think of drug addicts? So if you don't live with an addict then you believe you are safe? Sorry, not so. Drug addicts can easily start fires which is not good news for you if the guy in the apartment below you drops his pipe onto a sofa. What about the Tweaker who grabs your purse and runs? The home invasion because some unnamed lowlife thought you had a stash? If you share living space with an addict then your chances of getting hurt either financially or physically are pretty high. Infection, abuse and violence and unwelcome visitors to name just a few things that can make life hell. What about the safety of your children? You can read more about this in my book, The Dangers of Living with a Drug Addict.

Antidepressant dangers

A lot of concern is surfacing regarding the use or overuse of antidepressants, especially for young people. It appears that many of the shooters in recent crime spree killings were on some type of antidepressant. When we also know that many prescription drugs are diverted from the original patient and sold on the streets, it is even more concerning. People mistakenly believe that if it is a prescription drug then it is safe to take. The problem here is that even with assessments from a health professional, serious side effects from the drugs are fairly common. In the case of someone buying off the street or from a friend or neighbor, the user is totally unsupervised. Even their close family may not know what they are taking.

Many antidepressants now carry a warning mandated by the FDA.The following symptoms, anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostilityaggressiveness, impulsivity, akathisia (psychomotor restlessness), hypomania, and mania, havebeen reported in adult and pediatric patients being treated with antidepressants for majordepressive disorder as well as for other indications, both psychiatric and nonpsychiatric.

However these warning may not follow the sale of these medications on the streets or by the company watercooler. Even if they are seen they are likely to be ignored or dismissed. Read more on antidepressant addiction.

Drug Paraphernalia

I have noticed a big increase in the number of questions I am getting regarding possible drug paraphernalia, and many of these are queries about odd things, i.e. plastic tube, bent spoons, tea balls, washers, rolls of foil etc. As I usually explain when I reply, drug addicts are an inventive lot! Things are often used to (a) Make it look like the item is NOT drug related, or (b) Find a new way to use the drug or substance. It is hard for me to keep up with all the creative ways things are used. So, if you have a question about an odd finding, don't hesitate to contact me but also remember that if you think drugs may be being used, then observing the possible user is often a better way to determine if this is true.
